It's 38 degrees, you've fed twice in the last hour, and the last thing you want is a hot cup of tea. But your body still needs everything that cup would have given it.

This is the answer for the months when hot tea feels like the wrong idea entirely. Your lactation tea, frozen into something you actually want to reach for in summer. Ten minutes of brewing, a few hours in the freezer, and it's ready whenever the heat catches up with you.

These icy poles are made with Nourish Mama Sweet Serenity Lactation Tea, our fenugreek-free blend of apple, berries, hibiscus, rosehip, raspberry leaf, and fennel. It's naturally sweet and fruity on its own, which is exactly what makes it work frozen. This recipe sits alongside our full guide to lactation tea, which covers what actually works and what's mostly tradition.

    Why Sweet Serenity Works Here

Not every tea freezes well. Bitter or strongly herbal blends turn unpleasant once the sweetness drops out with the heat, which is part of why this recipe uses Sweet Serenity rather than a more traditional galactagogue blend like Lavender Lullaby. The apple, berries, hibiscus, and rosehip give it a naturally fruity base, and it's fenugreek-free, so it suits mums who are sensitive to stronger blends or simply prefer a gentler daily tea.

If you're using a different Nourish Mama tea blend you already have on hand, it will still work here.
Just taste it once cooled, some of the more herbal blends benefit from a little extra honey to balance out before freezing.

    Iced Lactation Tea Icy Poles

    Ingredients

    • 4 tsp Nourish Mama Sweet Serenity Lactation Tea Leaves

    • 500ml boiling water

    • 1–2 tbsp honey or maple syrup, to taste

    • Handful of fresh or frozen berries, sliced (optional, for the mould)

    • A few mint leaves (optional, for the mould)

    Directions

    1. Steep the tea in a teapot in the boiling water for 8–10 minutes, longer than you would for a hot cup, so the flavour holds up once frozen.

    2. Strain the tea and stir in honey or maple syrup while the tea is still warm, so it dissolves fully.

    3. Let the tea cool to room temperature.

    4. If using, drop a few berry slices or mint leaves into each icy pole mould first.

    5. Pour the cooled tea into the moulds, leaving a little room at the top for expansion.

    6. Insert icy pole sticks and freeze for at least 6 hours, or overnight.

    7. To release, run the outside of the mould under warm water for a few seconds before pulling the sticks out.
