Sleep is supposed to be a time when our
kids’ bodies have a chance to heal, strengthen, and grow – but for many
children who deal with eczema it can be a time when itching, irritation, and
restlessness are at their worst. During sleep, it’s easy for kids to become too
insulated and warm. It’s also a time when they don’t move much which means the
skin can easily become hot and sweaty leading to trapped toxins from the sweat
lingering on the skin for hours at a time. Sleep time is such a trigger for
eczema that many parents find their child’s flare ups get markedly overnight –
but this is something we can avoid thanks to bamboo!
Bamboo is an all-natural, super soft fabric
that is made from actual bamboo trees. This fabric is extremely durable,
delicate on the most sensitive skin, and it has a few other surprising
qualities as well.
First, bamboo fabric contains a natural
material called ‘bamboo kun’ which is a powerful anti-bacterial agent. Even
after the fibers form the tree have been broken down and spun into fabric, the
kun stays intact and works perfectly. Kun helps prevent any bacteria, toxins,
or other debris from building up on blankets, sheets, and bedding – and it
helps keep sensitive skin healthy and clean all night long. You’ll also notice
that bedding and blankets made from bamboo last longer, look newer, and smell
better thanks to this same anti-bacterial property.
Next, Bamboo is like wrapping up in an air
conditioner. It insulates the body in such a way that skin stays warm and dry
when it’s cold out, or cool and dry when it’s hot out. The material literally
wicks any excess moisture off the skin and lets it evaporate into the air while
your child sleeps instead of leaving it to sit on the skin where it can chap,
weaken, and cause eczema flare ups.
Finally, Bamboo is perhaps one of the
softest fabrics we’ve even felt. The delicate, light nature of this material
makes it the perfect choice for kids whose skin may react to blankets, sheets,
and bedding with a rough texture. Bamboo fabric provides a cloud-like surface
for sensitive skin to rest on at night which is why we’ve chosen to use it in
pretty much all of our products for kids with eczema and skin sensitivities.
If you’ve been relying on synthetic
materials or even cotton for your child – now is a great time to see what all
the buzz is about around bamboo sheets!
