    FAQ

Brewer's yeast is a yeast-based ingredient that carries a real risk of contributing to candida overgrowth in the postpartum period. Oestrogen is low after birth, antibiotics are common during labour, and gut flora is already disrupted. For many mums, introducing a yeast-based ingredient at this stage can trigger or worsen thrush, which is already one of the leading reasons women stop breastfeeding early.

The nutritional benefits brewer's yeast provides (B vitamins, beta-glucans, iron, protein) can all be delivered through whole-food ingredients that don't carry that same risk. Nourish Mama products use oats, linseed, fennel, and fenugreek instead: traditional galactagogues with a long history of use and without the yeast exposure.

The following products do not contain fenugreek:

    • Choc Chip Lactation Cookies
    • White Choc & Ginger Lactation & Pregnancy Cookies
    • Lactation Hot Chocolate (Original, Chai Spices, and Choc Mint)
    • Golden Latte
    • Lactation Bliss Balls Premix
    • Recovery Hydration Powder
    • Sweet Serenity Lactation Tea
    • Rosy Radiance Pregnancy & Lactation Tea
    • New Mama Nourishing Tea

These two products do contain fenugreek:

    • Fennel & Fenugreek Lactation Cookies
    • Lavender Lullaby Lactation Tea

If you have been advised to avoid fenugreek, or have a sensitivity to it, choose from the fenugreek-free options above.

The Choc Chip Lactation Cookies and Fennel & Fenugreek Lactation Cookies and the entire Nourish Mama Range are wheat-free, dairy-free, egg-free, and nut-free.

They are made in a facility that also processes products containing nuts and dairy, so they are not suitable for those with a severe or anaphylactic nut or dairy allergy.

The maca in the hot chocolate range is also not recommended during pregnancy.

Always check with your midwife, GP, or pharmacist about any herbal ingredients if you have specific concerns during pregnancy.

Yes. All three Nourish Mama Lactation Hot Chocolates (Original, Chai Spices, and Choc Mint) are wheat-free, gluten-free, nut-free and dairy-free.

A galactagogue is a food, herb, or ingredient with a traditional history of use in supporting breast milk production. The word comes from the Greek for milk.

Common galactagogues found in the Nourish Mama range include oats, linseed (flaxseed), fennel seeds, and fenugreek. These ingredients have been used by breastfeeding mothers across many cultures for generations.

Galactagogues are not a guaranteed solution for low milk supply and they work best alongside regular feeding or pumping, good hydration, and enough overall nutrition. If you have concerns about your milk supply, your midwife, lactation consultant, or GP is the best starting point.
