How to Stop Breast Pads Showing Through Your Clothes

    Frequently asked questions

Match the pad to your cup size so it fills the cup without folding, choose a contoured pad with tapered or seamless edges, and pair it with the right bra. Then favour textured or slightly looser tops over thin, clingy single-colour fabrics. Fit, shape and edge thickness do most of the work.

Contoured pads are usually more discreet. They are moulded to follow the curve of the breast, so they sit flush instead of folding the way a flat disc does against a curved cup.

Flat pads work best inside soft, wire-free bras where there is less shaping to fight against.

Bunching almost always means a size or shape mismatch. A pad too small for the cup slides and folds, and a flat pad inside a moulded cup creases at the edges.

Moving up to a pad that fills the cup, or switching to a contoured shape, usually fixes it.

Not usually. Good reusable pads are made from soft fabrics that mould to your shape, so they often sit flatter than stiff disposables.

Because you build up a set, you can keep slim contoured pads for fitted clothing and thicker pads for night, which is harder to do with a single box of disposables.

Choose a slim contoured pad in a well-fitting nursing bra, then wear a textured or patterned top with a slightly looser drape, or add a light layer such as a nursing cami or open shirt.

For a special event, a silicone pad under a fitted dress for a few hours is an option, just not for all-day wear.
