Questions About Our Breastfeeding Cookies & Lactation Biscuits

Honestly? Just the name. 'Biscuit' is the Australian word for what Americans call a 'cookie.' Both refer to the same type of snack — a baked, wholefood treat made with galactagogues like oats, flaxseed, and brewer's yeast to support milk production in breastfeeding mums.

Our range uses both terms because Australian mums search for both.

When they contain real galactagogues — yes, they can be a supportive addition. Our cookies contain oats, flaxseed/linseed, buckwheat flour, coconut oil, and (in some varieties) fennel and fenugreek.

These are traditional milk-supporting ingredients used by breastfeeding mums for generations. They work best alongside good hydration, regular feeding or pumping, and adequate rest.

They're not a magic fix — but 780+ five-star reviews suggest they make a genuine difference for most mums.

Most mums find 1–3 per day most effective, particularly in the first week.

For mums actively trying to build supply, we suggest starting with 3 per day for the first 3–4 days, then 1–2 daily for ongoing support.

These are intended as a nourishing snack alongside a balanced diet — not a meal replacement.

If you're concerned about your milk supply, always consult a lactation consultant or healthcare provider.

Yes. Our entire breastfeeding cookie range is wheat-free, dairy-free, refined sugar-free, nut-free, soy-free, and preservative-free. They're designed for mums and babies with sensitivities — because many breastfeeding babies react to what mum eats. Our recipes use whole, unrefined ingredients that are gentle on digestion.

You might notice we don't use brewer's yeast in our cookies, even though it's a common lactation ingredient.
That's a deliberate choice — and we've written about exactly why.

Great question. Many 'lactation cookies' sold in supermarkets are essentially standard biscuits with a clever label — the galactagogue content is too low to have any meaningful effect.

Our cookies are formulated by Kelly Northey, a Certified Postpartum Nutrition Professional, with galactagogues as a genuine focus — not an afterthought.

If you've tried cookies before without results, it may be worth combining them with our lactation tea or hydration support for a more complete approach to milk supply.

Yes — with a little timing guidance depending on which variety you choose.

Our White Choc & Ginger cookies are suitable throughout pregnancy. They're actually our only 2-in-1 cookie, designed to help with morning sickness during pregnancy and support milk production once baby arrives — so many mums start them in the first trimester and never stop.

All varieties — including Choc Chip and Fennel & Fenugreek — are safe to start from 36 weeks onwards, so you can have them ready to go before your due date.

The Fennel & Fenugreek variety is most effective once breastfeeding is established, but there's no issue beginning in those final weeks.

When in doubt, check with your midwife or healthcare provider.

The structure does three things: leads with the most permissive answer (yes), gives the White Choc & Ginger its "2-in-1" positioning which is a genuine selling point and differentiator, and then gives the clear 36-week rule for all varieties so no one feels excluded. The midwife disclaimer stays because it's good compliance practice.
